APTC and Non Resident Aliens - Hi Loopers I REALLY need HELP on this one! I serve many students with F1 visas and many are getting APTC. Today I learned that F1 students have to file taxes as Non Resident Aliens and in so doing become required to pay back the APTC! This is a snip it from an email I received. "My immigration status is F-1 (STEM OPT), and my husband is on F-2. There have been no changes to either of our statuses. I will be filing my taxes this year as a Non-Resident Alien, as I have been in the U.S. for less than five years. I have not yet completed my taxes, but I have filed as an NRA for the past two years and will be doing the same this year. I am concerned about how this impacts the APTC I received and whether I will be required to repay it when filing my return." When I research this on the internet - I see information that the NRA status will require them to pay back the APTC! How can they be determined eligible by the Health Connector to receive APTC then be made to pay it back at tax time? URGENT!
